Between classes, work shifts, and weekends at the beach, few people in Daytona Beach have time for monthly braces adjustments. Yet crowded or gapped teeth can still nag at you every time you see your smile in a photo or a video call.
Precision Cosmetic & Family Dentistry offers Invisalign and Candid Pro clear aligners to Daytona Beach patients who want straighter teeth on a schedule that fits real life. Dr. James Kortbus gained early Invisalign experience during his hospital residency and gives every patient an honest assessment of what aligners can do. Aligner therapy is one of the services we offer our Daytona Beach dental patients.
Request an AppointmentAligners That Fit a Busy Daytona Beach Schedule
Clear aligners are removable plastic trays made from a digital scan of your teeth. You wear each set for a set period, then switch to the next, and your teeth shift a little with every change. There are no brackets to break and no wires to tighten.
Aligners are a proven option for the right cases. A 2023 review in the Journal of Orthodontic Science describes clear aligner therapy as effective for mild to moderate tooth movement, which covers many of the crowding and spacing concerns we see.
Remote Monitoring With Candid Pro
For many Daytona Beach patients, the biggest hurdle is finding time for appointments. Candid Pro helps with that.
How Remote Check-Ins Work
You use a phone app to record short videos of your teeth during treatment. An orthodontist on Candid’s team reviews your progress, and you get guidance without driving in for every check.
Who It Suits Best
Remote monitoring works well for college students at schools like Embry-Riddle, Bethune-Cookman, and Daytona State, as well as busy professionals and parents. You still see Dr. Kortbus at key points in treatment.
Invisalign as Another Option
Some patients prefer Invisalign’s in-office check-ins. Dr. Kortbus explains both systems so you can choose the one that matches your routine and comfort level.
Conditions Clear Aligners May Correct
Aligners can address a range of alignment and bite concerns when they are mild to moderate. Common examples include:
- Crowded teeth: Overlapping or rotated teeth that are hard to clean.
- Spacing: Gaps between front or back teeth.
- Overbites and underbites: Mild bite issues, explained further in our article on fixing an overbite or underbite with aligners.
- Crossbites and open bites: Teeth that do not meet the way they should.
- Shifting after braces: Teeth that drifted when a retainer was not worn.
If your case is complex, we tell you honestly whether aligners are a good fit. We would rather recommend another approach than start a treatment that may not deliver what you want.
Your Clear Aligner Process
Treatment begins with a consultation, an exam, and a PrimeScan digital scan. Dr. Kortbus checks your gums, bone, and any existing restorations to make sure your teeth are healthy enough to move. He then plans each tooth movement digitally before your trays are made.
Once your trays arrive, you wear them about 20 to 22 hours a day, removing them only to eat, drink anything besides water, brush, and floss. Many cases take about 9 to 15 months. A retainer afterward helps hold your new smile in place.
Are Aligners as Good as Braces for Adults
Many adults wonder whether aligners can match traditional braces. For mild to moderate cases, aligners can be an excellent choice, and they let you eat what you want and keep up with brushing and flossing more easily.
Braces may still be better for some complex movements. Our article on whether clear aligners are as effective as braces for adults walks through the differences in more detail.
Clear Aligners for Teens
Teens can be great aligner candidates, especially athletes, band members, and anyone who wants to avoid the look of brackets. Aligners come out for meals, so there is no list of forbidden foods, and they are easier to keep clean than braces.
Teen cases may include a few extra trays in case one is lost or damaged. Parents are always welcome at consultations, and we explain how much responsibility a teen takes on so the whole family knows what to expect.
Protecting Your Results After Treatment
Teeth naturally tend to drift after they move, so wearing a retainer is an important final step. Dr. Kortbus explains how often to wear yours, which may start full time and taper to nightly wear. Our article on retainers after Invisalign covers what to expect.
We also check your alignment at routine cleanings. If something starts to shift, catching it early makes it much easier to correct.
Paying for Clear Aligners
Some dental insurance plans include orthodontic benefits that may cover part of aligner treatment. We review your coverage before you begin so you know your share.
CareCredit and Cherry financing can spread payments over time, and our $299 per year membership plan includes 20% off additional treatment, including orthodontic services.
Clear Aligner Questions From Daytona Beach Patients
Here are answers to the aligner questions we hear most from Daytona Beach patients.
How often do I need to come in?
It depends on your system. Invisalign uses periodic office visits, while Candid Pro adds app-based remote monitoring, which can mean fewer trips to our office.
Can college students get clear aligners?
Yes. Aligners are popular with students because they are discreet and removable, and remote monitoring makes it easier to stay on track during the semester.
Can I eat normally with aligners?
Yes. You remove your trays to eat and drink anything other than water, so there are no food restrictions. Brush before putting them back in.
What happens if I lose a tray?
Contact our office. Depending on where you are in treatment, we may have you move to the next set or order a replacement.
Do aligners work for adults over 40?
Yes. Healthy teeth can move at any age. We check your gums and bone first to make sure treatment is safe for you.
