The best dental visits are the ones where you know exactly what is happening, why it matters, and what comes next. Modern dental technology makes that possible, turning hidden problems into clear images and long waits for lab work into single, efficient appointments.
At Precision Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, Dr. James Kortbus has invested in tools that support accurate diagnosis, careful planning, and comfortable treatment in our New Smyrna Beach office. Much of this equipment powers our digital dentistry in New Smyrna Beach, and every piece serves one purpose, which is giving you better information and better care.
Request an AppointmentAdvanced Imaging for Accurate Diagnosis
Clear images are the foundation of a good treatment plan. They help us find problems early, measure them accurately, and show you what we see so you can make confident decisions about your care. We choose the type of image based on what each visit calls for, keeping radiation as low as reasonably possible.
Cone Beam CT Imaging
Our cone beam CT (CBCT) scanner creates a three-dimensional view of your teeth, jawbone, nerves, and sinuses in a single scan. Dr. Kortbus relies on it to plan dental implants, evaluate complex cases, and assess the jaw. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration notes that dental CBCT exams typically deliver more radiation than conventional dental X-rays, so we use it only when the added detail is needed.
Digital X-Rays and Intraoral Cameras
Digital X-rays appear on screen in seconds and use less radiation than traditional film. Our small intraoral cameras capture close-up photos inside your mouth, so you can see a cracked filling or a worn tooth for yourself rather than taking our word for it. Seeing the problem on a screen makes it much easier to decide on treatment, and the images become part of your record so we can compare changes over time.
Digital Impressions and Same-Day Restorations
Many patients remember biting into trays of thick impression putty. Our Dentsply Sirona PrimeScan scanner replaces that step with a quick, comfortable 3D scan of your teeth. These digital impressions are highly accurate and help crowns, bridges, and other restorations fit well.
Those scans feed directly into our CEREC CAD/CAM system. Dr. Kortbus designs a restoration on screen, and our in-office milling unit carves it from a block of tooth-colored ceramic. This workflow makes same-day crowns possible, so many patients leave with a permanent crown in one visit. An in-office 3D printer adds even more flexibility for appliances and models.
Gentle Soft Tissue Care With a Diode Laser
Our diode laser lets Dr. Kortbus perform select soft tissue procedures with precision. Lasers can gently reshape gum tissue and often reduce bleeding compared with traditional methods, which may help the area heal comfortably. Many laser procedures need less time in the chair than traditional techniques.
This tool supports cosmetic treatments such as gum contouring, where small changes to the gumline can make a smile look more balanced. Dr. Kortbus explains whether laser care is a good fit during your consultation and what recovery typically looks like.
Planning Implants and Dentures Digitally
Dental implant success starts long before the day of surgery. By combining CBCT images with digital scans of your teeth, Dr. Kortbus can study the bone around a missing tooth, choose an implant size, and plan its position with precision. Careful digital planning helps reduce guesswork during placement and supports a result that fits your bite.
The same scanning technology helps us create digital dentures, which are full or partial dentures designed from a precise digital model of your mouth. Patients who need implant-supported dentures benefit from this workflow as well, because the implants and the teeth they hold are planned together from the start.
How Our Technology Benefits You
Equipment only matters if it improves your experience in the chair. Here is what our technology means for you as a patient.
- Earlier detection: Detailed images help us find problems while they are small
- Fewer visits: Same-day crowns remove the need for a second appointment
- More comfort: Digital scans replace messy impression trays
- Clearer choices: Photos and 3D images help you see your options
- Precise planning: CBCT and digital design support accurate implant and crown work
None of these tools replaces clinical judgment, but each one gives Dr. Kortbus more information before treatment begins. He also walks you through your images and scans, so you leave every visit knowing where your oral health stands.
